A ‘community justice model’ must replace the existing ‘punishment model’ in order to support youth development and well-being. This can be achieved by building an infrastructure in Alameda County of equitable and culturally relevant community-based supports, services, diversion and other professional, educational, and creative opportunities for youth to build their resilience and to prevent the harmful impacts of system-contact.

Centering the voice and leadership of youth and directly impacted communities is a direct intervention to ensure they are equal collaborators in the creation and implementation of the ‘community justice model.’
